Pujas & Other Rituals

Below are a few examples of some of the rituals offered. Unless specified, many of the rituals can be done just as either as a puja in which offerings of fruit, flowers, incense etc. are made, or as a homa or havan in which offerings are made into the consecrated fire.

SARASVATI PUJA      Sarasvati is the Goddess of knowledge, wisdom, arts and learning. This  puja  is done to petition her blessings often to inaugurate the beginning of school and/or studies in general.

HAYAGRIVA PUJA      This ceremony often done to inaugurate the beginning of school and/or studies during which offerings are made to Hayagriva, the Hindu/Buddhist deity of knowledge, in order to invoke his blessings and to maximize the learning potential and the ability to actualize spiritual practice. .

BHUMI PUJA  / GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY  This ceremony requests the forgiveness of Mother Earth for the violence that is about to be done to Her on our instigation for the building of a structure.  We are also requesting forgiveness for disturbing the habitat of innumerable creatures living on the land, and requesting all the disembodied spirits, hungry ghosts and others to leave the site and allow us to build the house and live in peace and tranquility.

grha pravesa & vastu puja  / new home ceremony  This  Vedic  ceremony done in order to clear any imbalance of energy in the home or office space. This is the traditional and appropriate ceremony to perform when entering into a newly acquired property, a house, apartment, shop or an office.  All enclosed spaces create an energy field which is further conditioned by the auras of the people who use the space and the interpersonal dynamics that occur in it. The purpose of this ceremony is to transmute the negative into a positive beneficial force and to remove all obstructive elements. It consists of a Ganesha or Visvaksena  puja , a purificatory ceremony, and an invocation of the   Vastu Purusha for blessing the space and affording protection.

SUDARShANA PUJA  &  HOMA      Sudarshana is the personification of the Discus held by Lord Vishnu. He is representative of will the all-pervading Cosmic Mind. Sudarshana is one of the ’wrathful’ deities and is invoked along with Narasimha for protecting the spiritual aspirant from all negative forces that may be at work disturbing their lives and their  dharma  practice.     The ritual can also be used as a type of exorcism which removes elementals and other troublesome astral entities as well as counteracting curses and spells.

Sudarshana is the personification of the Discus held by Lord Vishnu. He is representative of will the all-pervading Cosmic Mind. Sudarshana is one of the ’wrathful’ deities and is invoked along with Narasimha for protecting the spiritual aspirant from all negative forces that may be at work disturbing their lives and their dharma practice.

The ritual can also be used as a type of exorcism which removes elementals and other troublesome astral entities as well as counteracting curses and spells.

Narasimha is the ferocious half-man half-lion incarnation of Vishnu. He specifically protects his devotees. Narasimha is one of the ’wrathful’ deities and is invoked along with Sudarshana for protecting the spiritual aspirant from all negative forces that may be at work disturbing their lives and their dharma practice.

The ritual can also be used as a type of exorcism which removes elementals and other troublesome astral entities as well as counteracting curses and spells.

 

NAVAGRAHA PUJA  / OFFERING RESPECTS TO THE 9 PLANETS   The  nava-grahas  are the nine planets which are Lords of  karma  and have sway over our lives. Each planet alternates in guiding and governing our lives in accordance with our previous  karmas .     Often done as a precursor to other ceremonies, like a wedding. Navagraha  puja  is done to pacify and alleviate any imbalances in the planetary energies. In some cases a particular planet may be specifically worshipped to ease the influences.  This ceremony is often done as a pre-wedding ceremony.

LAKSMI-NARAYANA PUJA     Lakshmi is the Goddess of Compassion. But since proactive compassion requires resources, She is also considered to be the presiding Goddess of prosperity in all its forms.  Lakshmi is thus worshipped in order to invoke Divine Grace, or to guide us in obtaining and properly using resources and wealth. She often worshipped alongside her counterpart, Narayana, who is source of the cosmic universe.
